Award-winning French author Gaëlle Bélem from Reunion Island has published two novels and a short story collection. The translation into English by Karen Fleetwood and Laëtitia Saint-Loubert of her debut novel There’s a Monster Behind the Door was longlisted for the 2025 International Booker Prize, shortlisted for the 2025 Scott Moncrieff Translation Prize and won the 2025 UK/Ireland Republic of Consciousness Prize. Her second novel, The Rarest Fruit, was translated into English in 2025, also published by Bullaun Press. As well as writing she teaches Latin, History and Geography to secondary school students and works as an associate judge in a juvenile court.
