Billy O’Callaghan was born in Cork in 1974 and is the author of four short story collections and three novels, most recently ‘My Coney Island Baby’ (2019), ‘The Boatman and Other Stories’ (2020) and ‘Life Sentences’ (which was published in 2021 by Jonathan Cape and is just published in the US by David R. Godine).

Winner of a Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Award and shortlisted for the COSTA Short Story Award and the Royal Society of Literature’s Encore Award among numerous other honours, his work has been translated into over a dozen languages and his short stories have appeared widely, in such journals such as Agni, the Chattahoochee Review, the Kenyon Review, Narrative, Ploughshares, the Saturday Evening Post and Winter Papers.

A new novel will be published by Jonathan Cape in 2023.
