The festival delivers a great amount of readings, workshops, events for teens and children as well as a Saturday Market and art installation on Grand Parade. Cllr. Des Cahill, Lord Mayor of Cork, will officially open festival at the City Library on Grand Parade, 7pm, Tuesday 18 April. The Fest begins and ends with a tribute to Molly Keane - Molly’s daughter Sally Phipps has recently published Molly Keane : A Life to great acclaim. Sally will be joined by her sister Virginia Brownlow and life-long Molly Keane fan Thomas McCarthy at the opening event. Kathy D’Arcy is hosting a Saturday Molly Keane Book Club in the run up to the festival. The fest finale on UNESCO World Book Day, 23 April is a Cronin’s Coaches Bus Trip from Cork to Molly’s home in Ardmore with poet Tom McCarthy on-board to talk the passengers through ‘Molly Keane Country’ along the way. Triskel Arts Centre Literary programmer Ann Luttrell says, “As well as bringing international writers to the city, the fest is known for celebrating new works by local and national writers. This year is no exception with new work by Eileen Battersby, Alannah Hopkin, as well as Billy O’Callaghan and Alan McMonagle.” One of the festivals main aims is to get people of all ages involved in books.
